Since the introduction of iPod the demand for touch based products in the consumer market has seen a remarkable increase. Ordinary capacitive switches do not match all modern market demands such as real materials, low power consumption and humidity, thus more in general “total freedom of design”. Piezo touch switches can fill the gap. In 2005 d-Switch began its new mission; to enter the consumer market within 5 years. The biggest challenge was to reach a low cost level in combination with high mass production quality. University of Helsinki were two important strategic decisions from the start. Later the consortium SmartPie was founded; a mixture of SME companies, three Dutch Universities and TNO. SmartPie, which is developing new piezo materials, was awarded by the Dutch Government in 2008 as one of seven major research projects to be sponsored for the following five years.
scope worldwide, an own production plant is not preferred anymore. Such would rather delay our development speed. Therefore the production and all industrial customers were sold to Danielson Europe the 1st of April 2009. Danielson will continue using the brand name d-Switch, we have changed to Aito.
